Fishy Tales after the comp

Sometimes you have to "Psyche yourself up" to go fishing in the competitions, especially
when it's windy, or cold and you know it's not going to be your best fishing day ever.
So on Saturday when it was blowing pretty hard, about four boats arrived at the ramp
at around 9am. We all wanted to weigh something in for the comp, so we all headed out.

Everyone was getting bumped around a bit, but it was a bit of a surprise when Doug Grigg
headed for home after about half an hour on the water.
It was only at the weigh in, that Doug told us that the strong swell had broken his
anchor coupling and he was drifting off into the far horizon.

It wasn't a good day for Doug.....No fish.....No anchor.....and after all the build up
only around half an hour on the water. Better luck next time Doug!!!!

I Think this is about 4 anchors along with about 10 rods & reels that members
have lost from their boats in the last few years. No wonder the channel is becoming shallow.

Stage 2 of the clubrooms, [The Fisherman's shed], is now complete, with just a few
little extras to go. The committee did not think this would be completed before 2009.

We had fantastic assistance from our members, with nearly all of the interior fittings
donated, even the TV set. Many members also gave their time and expertise,
and it is only the input from our members, that made this dream become a reality.

The South Gippsland Shire Council recently built an outside table, using timber
recovered from the original Venus Bay jetty. This table was placed just outside
the clubrooms, and while not officially "our table" we will make good use of it.
We do have a good relationship with the Shire, and especially the maintenance staff.

This committee will not hesitate to improve this facility whenever possible,
and we are currently working on adding a verandah to the front of the shed, if allowed.
Below are some pics that show the interior work, and the donated fittings .

We have now fitted pvc curtains over the door. Keeps the heat in and hopefully the flies out.
