Venus Bay Angling Club

What they are catching. [Fishing Report].

Report Date 16th of September 2008.

There were good signs from the Inlet in the last month. Boats have been able
to get out, the weather has been warmer and in the first two weeks of September
there was a lot less rain, and the water was becoming quite clean. Two weeks ago
Leon Webb landed a dozen salmon around the snags using hard bodied lures.
These salmon were around 1 to 1.5 kg and bigger than what was being hooked in the surf.

The next week another member landed 14 salmon 700 to 800 grams, as well as some
good trevally. The biggest was 38cm [sorry no weight, but I would think around 800grms].

These fish are moving up the inlet, and on the weekend I expected these fish would
have moved further up the Inlet to the green buoys. The wild weather on the weekend
made it impossible to fish in this area, but when the wind stops blowing, and the
warmer days come, the top of the Inlet should be really firing up.

There have been perch taken from the Venus Bay jetty in the last week or so. These perch
are attacking soft plastics and fish 30 to 35cm have been landed. Best time is at night.

The surf has been a little disappointing over the last month. Still salmon to 800grms
but the 2 to 3 kg fish have been scarce this year. On the weekend we did have a
gummy weighed in around 3kg taken from the surf.

The school holidays start this weekend, so it will be hard to get a spot on the
fishing platforms along the river. This is a great area to take the kids to teach them
about fishing. And there are always fish about, from trevally, mullet and even good
quality perch. The platforms are very popular, and it has been announced that more
funding has been made available to build more of these facilities on the Tarwin River.

Good luck until next time....................................Gerald
